Last September 8th and 9th, Azulema Mingarro, from Women of the World, was at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. to prevent surrogacy from becoming a practice endorsed by this international body, which in the end would mean the legitimization of this business, a clear business of human trafficking and exploitation of women's bodies worldwide.

He met with the permanent missions of some countries in Europe where surrogacy is currently banned, although in many of them it is possible to register the babies in the foreign country. And she delivered ehe report Surrogacy: A New Form of Exploitation of Women and Human Traffickingco-published by Women of the World, and the Declaration of Experts for the Abolition of Surrogacyan initiative of Professionals for Ethics, which was joined by Women of the World. It was delivered to the permanent missions of Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Jordan, Nicaragua, Germany, Austria, and Finland.

The debate has not yet reached the United Nations, but it is present in other international organizations, where Women of the World will also travel. We are convinced that we will win this battle. denouncing in advance this major problem of violation of women's rights and the exploitation of their bodies in the most relevant international fora rather than waiting for this practice to be allowed at the international level either progressively or unexpectedly.

Last September 8th and 9th, Azulema Mingarro, representing Women of the World Platform and M" Luisa Peña, from Profesionales por la Ética, visited the United Nations Office at Geneva with the main intention of preventing surrogacy from being supported by this international institution, which ultimately would mean legitimizing this business, that not only involves human trafficking but also the worldwide exploitation of women?s bodies.

They contacted some of the permanent missions INSERT INTO `wp_posts` (`ID`, `post_title`, `post_excerpt`, `post_content`, `post_date`) VALUES (diplomatic representatives of each country) in Geneva. These missions were almost exclusively from European countries where surrogacy is currently banned, although in some of them, the legal registration of foreign babies is allowed.

They were handed the Surrogate Motherhood, Wombs for hire: A new way of exploiting Women and Human Trafficking report, co-edited by the Women of the World Platform, as well as the International Statement of Experts for the Universal Abolition of Surrogacy.an initiative presented by Professional for Ethics that was supported by Women of the World. These two documents were given to the permanent missions of Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Jordan, Nicaragua, Germany, Austria and Finland.

The debate has not yet reached the United Nations but it?s present in other international organizations, which Women of the World is also planning to go to. We are convinced that we will win this battle by the early denounce of the violation of women?s rights and the exploitation of their bodies in the most important international forumsRather than waiting until this damaging practice becomes legal, either gradually or unexpectedly.
